Community-Initiated Research Projects: Preliminary Expressions of Interest

The Center for the Humanities at UC Merced is seeking expressions of interest in small-scale, community-initiated summer research projects on the theme of “Our Interwoven Futures.” We are seeking projects focused on public humanities that engage our region (Merced County).

Examples of possible projects may include:

  1. a public humanities research project focused on UC Merced’s archives and digital collections (this may include development of K-12 resources by local teachers)
  2. a public humanities research project initiated by a community member or organization in partnership with a UC Merced faculty member
  3. a public humanities research project that includes plans for a future internship for a graduate fellow to work with a community partner next summer

These expressions of interest may be considered for small-scale support from our Center (1 project to be supported each summer) and/or may be shared with faculty as part of a matchmaking process related to growing larger future projects in partnership with the community. Project leaders may also be invited to share their projects at UC Merced.

Application deadline: May 14, 2025
