UC Public Scholars Application

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
2016 UC Public Scholars

Deadline: Jan. 15, 2016 (apply below)

The Center for the Humanities at UC Merced invites applications from UC Merced graduate students to participate in the UC Public Scholars program. The selected applicant will receive a $4,500 stipend in Summer 2016 to support work on a community-engaged project.

Program Summary:
The Public Scholars Program addresses two separate but related goals of supporting community-engaged scholarship and broadening the career opportunities of humanities PhDs. The students selected at participating UC campuses will join (either remotely or in person) in a Public Scholars seminar in Spring 2016 at UC Davis, introducing them to the intellectual and practical aspects of public humanities scholarship and, in the summer following the seminar, work for a community partner that they identify in a community-engaged project developed during the seminar. Each student will be paired with a faculty mentor who will help design the community-engaged project, and both the student and faculty member will be invited to attend the March 7th, 2016, launch of the Public Scholars Program to network and build a community among the participants.

500-word max. Please describe the project you would like to pursue.
