The Center for the Humanities at UC Merced offers two dissertation writing fellowships for spring 2022, each with a public humanities component. These fellowships cover both tuition and a stipend for spring. Fellows will be offered writing space in our public humanities design studio if they do not currently have office space on campus. Please note that these fellowships are open to graduate students who have taken their qualifying exams and have been advanced to candidacy. This fellowship is supported by an MRPI grant from UCOP that sponsors the activities of the UC Humanities Consortium as well as through our Public Humanities Endowment.
The fellowship comes with the following requirements:
- Participation in the Graduate Society of Fellows sponsored by the UC Humanities Consortium and a virtual convening of the UC Humanities Graduate Fellows Collaborative in Fall 2022. This meeting will be attended by Fellows from across the UC system and will feature a professionalization workshop.
- Presentation of a research paper at the Center for the Humanities based on your dissertation topic.
- Completion of a public humanities project (please contact Christina Lux if you would like to discuss potential options, but these may include, for example: a blog or blog series, a short video, an exhibit, etc.); this project should not be so large as to distract significantly from dissertation writing, but should rather complement the dissertation project.
- 1-page report on dissertation writing progress made over Spring 2022 and 1-page report on the public humanities project, with the reports due by June 1, 2022.
