The goal of the UROC-H program is to engage 60 promising undergraduate students, over a three year period, in faculty-mentored research and prepare them for advanced education in the humanities and humanistic social sciences.
UROC-H will provide undergraduate scholars:
• Mentorship by a professor and graduate student
• Participation in UROC’s 9-week summer research institute (SURI)
• $3,500 research stipend
• $1,000 for conference travel
• $500 to support research activities
• Graduate school preparation & career coaching
UROC-H will offer faculty:
• Opportunities to work one-on-one with an undergraduate student or lead a research cluster of 3-5 students
• Opportunities to engage and integrate community partners in your research
• $1,000 in research funds per student mentored
If you would like to lead a research cluster of undergraduate students for UROC-H, please fill out the below application by Nov. 3, 2017. You may focus on either a team-based approach to a project or on a research theme. Research clusters should be focused on the humanities, following the below definition:
"The term 'humanities' includes, but is not limited to, the study and interpretation of the following: language, both modern and classical; linguistics; literature; history; jurisprudence; philosophy; archaeology; comparative religion; ethics; the history, criticism and theory of the arts; those aspects of social sciences which have humanistic content and employ humanistic methods; and the study and application of the humanities to the human environment with particular attention to reflecting our diverse heritage, traditions, and history and to the relevance of the humanities to the current conditions of national life."

Please note: Faculty are not required to submit this application if they anticipate working with only one student; when that student submits their application to UROC-H, they will identify the faculty member on the application. All students, whether applying to work 1:1 with a faculty member or as part of a research cluster, submit their own applications directly to UROC-H. Only students who submit a UROC application can be considered for funding or acceptance into the UROC-H Program. UROC-H does not guarantee that all proposed Faculty-led Research Clusters will be accepted. The matching process between Faculty-led Research Clusters and UROC-H undergraduate scholars is primary based on the student’s own research interest, as we want our research scholars to not only have access to participate in research, but be enthusiastically engaged in the process.
