Faculty may submit proposals for the 2015-2017 biennial theme by April 1, 2014.
A theme should be able to engage a wide range of faculty working in different disciplinary traditions, countries, and periods; it should be understandable to people outside the academy as well as within. Ideally, a theme is open to multiple interpretations, so that it introduces unexpected conversations.
We will circulate the list of potential themes and solicit comments on them, including an informal poll to see where people could imagine themselves working.
The Center Advisory Committee (Ruth Mostern, ShiPu Wang, Robin DeLugan, Nigel Hatton) will review the proposals and comments, and make a selection. Our criteria will be:
a. Range of faculty potentially engaged by the theme
b. Potential for engaging the local community
c. Potential links with programs, Schools, and Centers outside of the Humanities
When the theme has been chosen, we will invite pairs of faculty to apply to serve as lead faculty for the theme. One of those faculty will be a faculty fellow each year, and they will help provide intellectual direction for selecting grad fellows, speakers, etc.
