About the speaker:

Yiran Xu is an Assistant Professor of Writing Studies in the Department of Global Arts, Media and Writing Studies at the University of California, Merced. Her research interests include multilingual writing, second language acquisition and bilingualism, corpus linguistics, Systemic Functional Linguistics, and writing assessment. She used mixed-methods approaches to understand how multilingual learners develop writing over time across various contexts. She  received her Ph.D. (2020) in Applied Linguistics from Georgetown University, M.A. (2014) in Educational Studies from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
