"Chiura Obata: An American Modern," free public lecture by Prof. ShiPu Wang

Merced County Library

Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 4:30-6pm

Join ShiPu Wang, curator of the internationally-traveling retrospective, Chiura Obata: An American Modern, for a revealing talk about the artist’s life stories and love for California’s “Great Nature,” and Wang’s 8-year effort in organizing this exhibition. The exhibition is on view at UC Santa Barbara’s Art, Design & Architecture Museum through April 29, 2018. It travels to Utah, Okayama, Japan, and Sacramento, with a culminating stop at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C. in November 2019.

UC Merced’s Center for the Humanities is offering each of the first 20 registered attendees a free copy of the exhibition catalogue by the University of California Press, the first art book surveying Obata’s 7-decade career by an academic publisher. Register here: http://bit.ly/2nmAMhU
